I found that GMX don't work good with slow internet speed. Users from south asian country have internet speed problems and sometimes GMX works too slow when compared to hotmail, gmail and other popular email services. GMX got everthing in it and I hope GMX will work with speed in future. With best wishes - A Fan Of GMX.
A light version has already been suggested:

As has a Mobile version:

:-)
Totally agree with dking. I actually don't think a light version is a solution to this problem. GMX is great in a lot of aspect but speed is such a huge deterring point. It is so much slower than other webmail provider. This is a KEY point to improve on, in my view.
I can see the need for a lighter version and especially for the mobile version. But GMX could definitely benefit from a speed improvement (that might even eliminate the need for a lite version).
Don't know how easy it would be, but it would be much appreciated. There's definitely an unproportional weigth brought by GMX and in a older computer it's a little irritating.
There seems to be some overhead in the communications also. The company where I'm currently working as an intern has a lousy connection, and GMX fails to deliver more than often. I know that the lousy connection is mostly responsable but the failure rate of GMX compared with, let's say, gmail, is noticeable.
Speed performance I find very intermittent in the UK even. Sometimes it can take well overe a minute to get into the inbox, whilst loading mail logo does its bit.....other times it can load in a split second. Time of day does not seem to be a factor with me, why can't we have constant good speed???
Yes very slow
This can be very useful for people on vacation and want to save money on internet by receiving the most economic one that works. At our beach house, we signed up for NetZero, they allow us to access the internet for 10 hours total each billing cycle (monthly) for FREE! Very useful for houses not often visited. Can you guess what the speed is? You probably guessed it, DIAL-UP! It still works, though.
P.S. 2 out of 3 of the functions GMX seems to be implementing from the second half of June 2009 to now seem to pertain to how the email service is compatible with users (hide spam folder if spam protection is shut off, Fix Brainstorm so the page views correctly when you load it) and the 3rd function which is different is "Add selectable themes". I'm not sure if GMX has an estimated date these 3 projects currently being implemented are going to be finished. This comment recieved more than 110 promotions in LESS THAN 3 MONTHS!!! (April 6 to July 3)
Then everyone get ff to speed up this!!
GMX is great webmail servie but its speed is...a low side of it so plz...try to make it work fast
My speed isnt always as good and sometimes it hickups so badly!
GMX is fast here in Portland, Oregon USA with medium speed DSL. So Intuitive, and sleek
working very slow while retrieving the emails. Please do the needful to speedup.
As a new user of GMX I do agree that the speed is slow especially as were are in 2009. I hope that they manage to resolve this problems soon. I want to be able to send or retrieve my mail in an instant not be waiting around.
Speeding up GMX
Please!!! A light and fast (even limited) version for third worl users!!!
Would it be feasible to add an alternate, "low bandwidth" version of GMX so that users with slow internet connections could still use it? I vote, "Yes!"
poor
Yes, speed is definitely an issue that could be improved. All the features are nice..but useless if the applications freeze up so regularly, as has been the case for me.
I totally agree!
Best service of the web (even among non-free!) but GMX's engine seems pretty slow on my P4 DualCore 2.9 GHz. Works fine (hum, better) on a Intel-based Imac G5 at home. Don't add too many low-use features until you re-write it all over again.
Thanks anyway.
GMX is very slow compared to other webmail sites - re logging on and off.
But it's great you don't have adverts. cluttering up interface.
Would recommend it to fellow students, but, I cannot cut, paste and copy from emails received to another I wish to send.
No doubt GMX will get round to these niggles
In answer to dking. There is a Internet Backbone bottleneck between South and East Asia and the USA, where most of the Internet's Routers reside. Furthermore, in recent years there has been a rapid take-up of high bandwidth services in the Asian region: IP Telephony, YouTube, Social Networking, and Bit-Torrent exchanges. All these activities slow down the Internet for other IP traffic, such as web e-mail.
Google and Hotmail e-mail are faster because (and this is my guess) certain business interests in the USA have successfully lobbied to have Google and Hotmail traffic prioritized through the Backbone Routing system. This means that GMX will always be slower than GMail and Hotmail because the playing field is not level. It has been rigged.
We should all stick with GMX (on principle) and boycott the world of Google (GMail) and of Microsoft (Hotmail) despite the slightly slower speeds with GMX because it means we keep our distance from the corruption and criminality that has now taken over Corporate USA.
I am sure that the good people at GMX will be doing whatever they can to speed up basic access to their GMX e-mail service, but they can only do so much. We should look at all the other wonderful GMX features and see those as ample compensation for marginally slower access speeds.
May I remind you all that around 70% of all PC users are losing bandwidth in their own computers due to their failure to keep their machines clean of spyware, their PC disks defragmented, and their Registry clean and defragmented. You should test your Broadband connection to confirm it is delivering the speed you are paying for (try this one: http://www.speedtest.net/). Poor telephone lines cause slower broadband speeds (due to dropped packets) so you should also contact your local Telephone service provider to have your line physically inspected and tested.
Those living in Asia who regularly access only International websites (based in Europe and USA) are wasting their money if they are paying for broadband speeds above 4 Mbps.
Many of you would immediately increase your GMX access speed if you dumped your existing browser (including Firefox, and especially Microsoft's snail-paced Explorer) and downloaded instead the fantastically fast OPERA Browser (version 10). The only browser that comes anywhere near the speed of Opera is Google Chrome, but that returns us back to the original problem of staying outside the reach of the Google octopus, and its cosy relationship with US Security Services. All GMX users should be accessing their account using only the OPERA (version 10) browser. I promise you, you will be far happier.
Regards and peace.

I think i find way to increase the loading speed:

To all our GMX members,
Our software team has worked hard on improving the loading time of GMX Mail using various browsers. On the average, we've managed to improve loading time by a whopping 55%!
The startup performance is now noticeably better for the most common versions of IE (ver. 7 and 8) and Firefox (ver. 3.5 and 3.6) browsers. Taking into consideration the worldwide distribution of all our GMX members, the quickest loading time was achieved using Firefox 3.6 with an average of 3 seconds for loading. IE, in contrast, takes almost twice the amount of time to load GMX Mail. Our recommendation therefore is to use the latest non-beta version of Firefox, which has achieved the quickest loading time in our tests.
Thank you for your patience with the loading issues and we hope these recent improvements will help you become more productive with GMX Mail! Our team will now be focusing on the most common usability issues in our GMX Mail Client and making improvements wherever possible.
Best,
Your GMX Team
So basically: do not use IE. Well I use firefox and normally GMX is not that slow, but if you can make it more flashy it's alright. Is this development finished or you're looking for furder optimization?
Dear Brainstorm Moderator,
Have you conducted any GMX tests using Opera ver. 10?
I do use the Firefox browser and have done for over 18 months, but I tend to use it for research. Firefox 3.X became noticeably slower than earlier versions and the constant upgrading of Add-Ons/Extensions tends to distract from the User Experience.
I use Opera 10.5 to access all my web e-mail accounts. This browser deserves more recognition. Why people still keep referring to Microsoft's Internet Explorer as a viable alternative is a mystery. That browser should have been junked at least 2 years ago.
The only reasons I keep I.E. on my laptop are: (1) We cannot uninstall it, even if we wanted to, and (2) my Sony Vaio goes looking for Internet Explorer every time I connect to the Sony upgrade website.
Please test GMX on Opera 10.5 and give us your 'official' comments. Firefox is a great product, but the more savvy web users tend to employ more than one browser these days ("horses for courses").
Regards and Peace,
Viking.
LIFE IS SHORT .......N'JOY TILL U DIE !
Haveing had an AOL account for nearly 10 years and still have, i decided to treat myself to a new laptop with window,s 7 that give,s split screen, After a fortnight of finding my way around this i decided to give this one a GMX Email address, and i have to be honest i wish i had a GMX Email account 10 years ago it,s so much easier especially for an old boy like me who after all this time is still trying to learn about them WELL DONE GMX you have made it better for me.
yeap... really slow. I recommend giving users some option to turn off graphics(/switch to text-only mode).
If I come to Global Mail eXchange, then I want to read my mails not news or facebook or look at shiny gfx.
Why not implement this? Less traffic would be consumed on your servers this way.
please , we need a light version for mobile devices. !!! thanks
