Injury boost for Black Cats

The 31-year-old had not been expected back until the New Year but he has returned to full training with the hope that he will be ready to play in around a month after he has built up his fitness.

Boss David Moyes has described his return as 'incredible' although he will be wary of rushing him back too soon following his knee surgery on a longstanding problem in the summer.

"Seb has dipped in and out a little bit but started full training on Monday,” Moyes told the Echo.

“I think Seb will need the best part of three to four weeks on football sessions and what not and hopefully we might get him a couple of Under-23 games in the process.

“Hopefully it is quicker. But he has done really well. I don’t want to risk his injury too soon. It is an incredible return.”
