Kimmich has been an excellent addition to the Bayern ranks since joining from Stuttgart back in 2014, going on to make 189 appearances as the Bavarians have dominated the Bundesliga.
However the 24-year-old has stepped up his game to another level and is now one seen as one of the best defenders in European football.
Kimmich is a real threat going forward having chipped in with 18 goals, while he has also provided a further 45 assists.
It is no surprise that Barca are showing an interest and Bayern are bracing themselves for offers.
The La Liga champions are looking to bolster their defence and are on the look-out for a replacement Nelson Semedo.
They see Kimmich as the ideal signing and will make a move at the end of the season.
Barca also admire Kimmich's leadership skills and believe he will add authority to their backline when Gerard Pique finally calls time on his career.
Bayern clearly see the German international as a big part of their future plans and will do all they can to keep hold of the player and fend off any bids that may come.
The German giants harbour hopes of winning the Champions League once again, and to do that, it is crucial they keep hold of the likes of Kimmich.
It would take an astronomical offer for Bayern to even consider selling.
