Best beaches in England

A recent survey has revealed going on regular trips to the beach improves a person's happiness and wellbeing. Here we'll give you a rundown of some of the best beaches in the UK to visit, whether you live here or abroad.

Top of the list must be tourist favourite, Bournemouth Beach. With its sandy beaches, beach huts and even an on-land tram, there is something for all the family here. West Cliff Beach is near to the town centre, and thus the train station, and sits west of Bournemouth Pier. It is usually much quieter than its neighbour, East Cliff, which sits on the other side of the famous pier.

Despite there being less people here, there are still the same ice-cream kiosks and facilities of the more popular East Cliff beach.

If you head further west from here, you will reach Hengistbury Head, whilst if you went to the east, you will eventually come across Sandbanks - also known as the Millionaire's Playground due to the plethora of expensive houses there.

If you're looking for a beach mixed in with a bit of history, Bamburgh Beach is a lovely setting. The coastline by this village in Northumberland has all the charm of a sandy beach but with the wonderful imposing Bamburgh Castle on the hills above.

The castle - which has been used as a filming location on a number of occasions - is open to the public most of the year and costs around £11 for adults and £5 for children five and upwards.

The third beach - and one that certainly couldn't be missed off the list - is Brighton Beach. Next to the traditional Brighton Pier, this pebble beach is loved by families in the day and it becomes the home to bustling clubs and nightlife when the evening draws in. Just an hour from London, the beach is also near the famous Brighton Lanes, which are perfect for shopping.
