A study by WalletHub has found that the city and its famous Times Square is the preferred place to spend the final day of the year in the United States.
Being there for the iconic ball drop topped the poll of the place to be in the US on NYE after 28 different metrics - for the likes of entertainment and food, costs and accessibility - all being taken into account.
Other cities to rank highly included Los Angeles in California, Atlanta in Georgia and San Diego in California. Las Vegas, Nevada rounded out the top five.
Nicholas E. Johnston, an expert on the study, said: "For example, if I am seeking a family-friendly NYE experience but on a budget, I may consider traveling to visit a relative. On the other hand, if my wife and I are looking to get away and have a generous budget, we may consider spending NYE on a beach in the Caribbean (our happy place) or watch the ball drop from the rooftop bar and patio at the Knickerbocker Hotel in Times Square."
