Michail Antonio wants West Ham to sign another striker

Michail Antonio has urged West Ham to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

The Hammers forward would be happy with competition for his place as he is the only recognised striker at the club and knows the club could have a better season if they sign an alternative option.

Speaking on the Footballer's Football Podcast: "One thing that we definitely need is a striker, and the crazy thing is I’m the striker, so somebody is going to come in and try to take my spot.

"But I like a challenge, I like having someone there pushing me, even if they take my spot, I believe I can get it back, it gives me that hunger and that drive. It makes me play better because I need to play well to stay in the team.

"Obviously we have quite a few injuries at the back, we have lost Kurt [Zouma], Angelo [Ogbonna] Cress [Aaron Cresswell] is out with his back so obviously we must be looking at centre-halves as well but if one comes in someone has to go out and that is a difficult thing in professional football, it might be one of your friends who is going out."

Antonio has been in impressive form so far this term as West Ham push for Europe again and explained how he hopes to beat his personal best for goals and assists this season.

He said: "I have eight goals and five assists, because of how well I started the season I wanted to be a bit further but I am definitely on target for what I set myself for the season.

"Last year I got ten goals and five assists, so eight goals and five assists I am almost tied with that. This season all I wanted to do was beat that and see how far I can [go] and each year as the seasons go by I just want to keep beating it.

"The most I have got in the Prem is ten goals and I am two away from that so hopefully I can beat that."
