Robert Garcia promises to get the best out of Anthony Joshua in rematch

Robert Garcia will help Anthony Joshua makes the most of his "physical gifts" in his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The American has been brought by Joshua as the British champion looks to regain the world title he lost to Usyk last year and has vowed to come up with the right game plan to utitlise the challenger's strengths.

Joshua was criticised in last year's bout for attempting to outbox one of the sport's most accomplished fighters and Garcia agreed that the approach was completely wrong.

The coach told IFL TV: "When you have somebody that's a lot smaller than you and you have the weight, height, reach and power advantages then take advantage of that.

"I wouldn't even say it was a 'game plan', maybe it was just the wrong instructions. Anthony is the type of fighter who listens to his corner so he did what he was told and it was totally wrong."

Garcia's appointment has been questioned in some corners as he has little experience working with heavyweight fighters but the trainer dismissed the concerns.

He said: "People were saying 'Oh, he doesn't train heavyweights' or 'he's too small to do mitts with him'. My job is to come and guide and give good advice and come up with a good game plan, my size doesn't mean I can't tell a heavyweight how to fight and what he needs to do to win a fight.

"I've done this many times before, the thing is that with me, it doesn't have to be a super-heavyweight or heavyweight or featherweight. I've been in the position where nobody believes my fighter is going to win and we go and upset the world champions."
