Scott Carson to depart Manchester City

Scott Carson will leave Manchester City this summer.

The 39-year-old former England goalkeeper - who has made just two appearances, totalling 117 minutes, in six years - is set to depart the club when his contract expires.

The team said in a statement: "During his time at City, Carson has been praised by goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor and peers Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno for his work ethic and the effect of his positive attitude amongst the group."

Scott joined Manchester City in 2019 before completing a free transfer in 2021 and was part of a squad that won 11 trophies - four Premier League titles, one Champions League, an FA Cup, two League Cups, one Community Shield, one Super Cup and a Club World Cup - during his stint.

However, he spent most of his tenure as third-choice keeper behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

He saved a penalty in a 4-3 Premier League win over Newcastle United in May 2021 and came on as a late substitute when City drew with Sporting Lison in the Champions League last-16 second leg in March 2022.

Scott's former teammate Kyle Warker recently praised the goalie for his mental resilience and passion for the game that had kept him involved in the squad despite knowing he was unlikely to play.

He said: "To come in every day knowing you're the third-choice keeper - mentally, I have to take my hat off to him.

"He's had a fantastic career but to still have the love for football and do what he does, these are the people you need around the place."

Scott made his professional debut in 2004 for Leeds United and has played for 10 teams, including Liverpool and Turkish side Bursaspor.
