Bernardo Silva devastated by Manchester City's Club World Cup elimination

Bernardo Silva doesn't see Manchester City's exit from the Club World Cup as a blessing in disguise.

City were eliminated from the competition after a 4-3 loss to Saudi side Al-Hilal in the last 16 but Silva insists that the club would rather still be in the tournament, even though they now have some more time to rest and prepare for next season.

The Portuguese international said: "No one wanted to lose, no one wanted more vacations.

"We are very used to not having holidays unfortunately because the schedule is crazy.

"But when we are in a competition we take it very seriously and we had a lot of ambition for this Club World Cup and we wanted to win it."

Silva even suggested that being knocked out of the Club World Cup was equally as painful as going out of the Champions League.

When asked if the two tournaments were comparable, the City captain said: "Yeah, a little bit, yeah."

Silva does not know how much time off the City players will get ahead of the new Premier League campaign but insists that the squad will be ready to begin their domestic charge when they take on Wolves in their opening game on August 16.

He said: "We don't know [the schedule] yet.

"We know when we start the Premier League, we will try to have as much rest as possible but also coming back to prepare for the season properly.

"That's not my job, that's the manager and his staff's job to prepare the players, two or three weeks, whatever. But we are going to prepare the season."
