Mohamed Salah wins PFA Player of the Year award

Mohamed Salah has won the PFA Player of the Year award.

The Liverpool forward has become the first player to take home the prize on three occasions after he proved instrumental in the Reds' Premier League title success last term.

Quizzed on if he had ambitions to win accolades when he was growing up in Egypt, Salah - who scored 29 Premier League goals last season - said at Tuesday's (19.08.25) ceremony: "Of course I wanted to be a football player and I wanted to be famous and provide for my family, but you don't think about the big stuff when you are still in Egypt.

"When you grow, you start to see things differently and you start to have ambition and you start to the see the bigger picture."

Salah, who previously won the PFA gong in 2018 and 2022, had also won the Premier League player of the season award for 2024-25 and was named the Football Writers' Association (FWA) footballer of the year.

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers took home the Young Player of the Year prize after a breakthrough campaign and is hoping to emulate previous winners such as Steven Gerrard, David Beckham and Gareth Bale.

He told BBC Sport: "Later down the line, I want to be one of those incredible players people speak about, so to do that I have to do what they did and what they followed after.

"It's a nice recognition but there's more to win and I can't wait."

Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey has won the PFA Women's Player of the Year after an impressive first season with the Gunners.

The Spanish international explained that "there is nothing better than when your opponents recognise your job" after picking up the award.

Caldentey told BBC Sport: "As a footballer, you want to win the trophies with the team and then when you are successful, this happens.

"It feels nice but I want to win trophies with the club."
