The Australian was sacked at Spurs manager not long after the winning the Europa League earlier this year and while it was "tough" to take, he admitted he wasn't surprised.
He reflected to Telegraph Sport: “It was tough. It’s never happened to me before, because everywhere I’ve been, I’ve been a success.
“There hasn’t been a reason for anyone to sack me or move me on. And I had success again. For all intents and purposes, that was what the club was craving. The football club hadn’t won something for a very long time.
“But like I said, I knew it was coming. I knew it was coming a long way, a long time probably before most people. It wasn’t the actual decision [that was difficult], it was just things ending and you go, ‘What do I do now?’ ”
Ange admitted knowing he was on his way out made the Europa Final celebrations "strange" but he didn't want to "tarnish" the celebrations for a side that had just won their first trophy in 17 years.
He said: "It was strange, but I certainly didn’t want to tarnish the night or tarnish the parade or anything like that.
“I don’t think it’s about being treated unfairly. You’ve got to accept that decision. Whether I think it’s the right decision or not becomes irrelevant.
“But it was never going to derail me and what I achieved in the game. I like to make things happen for a reason. And the reason was that it landed me here. It gives me an opportunity to do something special at this football club.”
The 60-year-old coach has just been appointed Nottingham Forest manager and while the offer was unexpected, it was a job he was very interested in.
He said: “Every opportunity I’ve had has come from somewhere where I haven’t expected it.
"“What I did know was that I was keen to go to a club that would give me that platform to continue the career I’ve had so far and that is to continue winning things. That was important to me.
“If you asked me at the start of the year if this was a possibility I would say to you no way because of the job that Nuno had done and the trajectory of the club, but it’s presented itself, and I’m happy to take it.”
