The 38-year-old striker joined newly-promoted Serie A side Cremonese on a one-year deal after leaving Leicester City in the summer, and has has insisted he has no signs of "slowing down" and is looking forward to proving people wrong.

He was asked by a reporter at his unveiling: “In Italy we are a little bit sceptical about players like you approaching 40. We tend to say, where’s their motivation, how fit are they? What do you say in response to the sceptics?”

Jamie hit back: “You must be one of the doubters. You’re one that I’ll have to prove wrong.

“Age is just a number. As long as my legs are still doing exactly what they used to and feel as fresh as they do, I’ll carry on. At the moment there are no signs of slowing down, so I’ll keep going. I’ll be giving my all for this club.”

Jamie agreed to join the Italian club after a long Zoom call with Cremonese coach Davide Nicola.

He said: "Just looking in his eyes and seeing what he wanted, that really resonated with myself and I think as a footballer it's always nice to feel wanted.

"Having sat down with the manager and the owner, the main task is making sure we stay in the league. And if I'm honest, that's how it was when I was at Leicester."
