Hansi Flick vows Barcelona ‘will get better’ following Champions League draw with Club Brugge

Hansi Flick has promised Barcalona “will get better” following their draw with Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.

Barca had ended its Champions League match with Blauw-Zwart with a disappointing 3-3 draw on Wednesday (05.11.25) at the Jan Breydel Stadium, and Flick has now insisted his side needs to stay positive.

Speaking with the official FC Barelona website, the 60-year-old manager said: “3-3 is not the best result, but Club Brugge played very, very well.

“We will continue to maintain our high defensive line and work on improving it.”

Brugge got off to an early start thanks to Nicolo Tresoldi, 21, but Ferran Torres, 25, quickly responded before Carlos Forbs, also 21, ended the second half with a 2-1 lead for Brugge.

Lamine Yamal, 18, then equalised in the second half, but Brugge’s Forbs soon brought the score to 3-2 minutes later.

An own goal from Brugge’s Christos Tzolis, 23, ended the game with its 3-3 draw.

Flick admitted Barcelona shouldn’t have conceded the first goal so early, but insisted he wouldn’t change his side’s defending style.

He said: “Last season, we wouldn’t have conceded that first goal. We don’t have the same confidence when playing the offside trap. We won’t change our way of defending.

“In midfield, we didn’t press well, and it was difficult to defend against their players with pace. We need to analyse the draw and see where we can improve.”

The head coach stressed Barca would “get back to [their] best level” once Raphinha, 28, Pedri, 22, and Joan Garcia, 24, have recovered from their injuries.

He said: “We have to keep working. We are not at our best, but we must stay positive. We’ll be able to get back to our best level when we have the likes Raphinha, Pedri, and Joan Garcia back.”

Flick added: “We are Barca and we want to be intense with and without the ball.”

The head coach concluded Barcelona would has “the opportunity to do better against Celta [Vigo]” when they face The Sky Blues in La Liga on Sunday (09.11.25).
