Joaquin Niemann offers tips on speeding up shots

Joaquin Niemann gained 10mph in three years by focusing on hitting the ball as hard as possible.

The Chilean golfer thinks he has improved his game by focusing on one aspect and initially not worrying about his positioning when making contact with the ball.

He explained to bunkered magazine: “The key factor when trying to hit it further is that you have to get your body used to swinging fast.

“You’ve got to spend time on the range.

“Every time you go and practise – if you’re an amateur or a professional – you’ve got to spend 15 minutes doing it.

“I mean, a guy like Bryson might sped an hour trying to hit it as hard as he can and it doesn’t matter where the ball goes.

“I used to try that every session that I had.

“I practised by hitting at least 20 or 30 balls trying to hit them as hard as I could.

“That’s where I’ve gained 10mph in the last three years.

“It doesn’t matter if you can stay in balance, if your feet go crooked or whatever.

“Don’t worry about where the ball goes at first.”

From there, Joaquinn has been able to focus on his balance in order to “hold [his] finish”.

He explained: “To start transferring that speed into a little more consistency, I like to feel as though I can hit it as hard as I can, but I try to hold my finish too.

“I’ve got to hold an unstable finish and try to stay up there, knowing that my feet are not going anywhere.

“If you can hold your finish, you’re in control through the whole motion.”
