Jonathan Davies has 'bigger purpose' after retirement

Jonathan Davies has found a “bigger purpose” now.

The former Scarlets centre played his last game in May 2024, around the time his first son was born, before announcing his retirement that October, and he has cherished being able to spend more time with his family.

He told Rugby World magazine: “I’ve been around for much more than a lot of new dads get and that’s the most important thing.

“There’s a bigger purpose in my life now. So it was great timing,

“I look back at my career and there’s not much else I could have done, so I’m happy.”

Jonathan loves spending time outdoors and thinks hiking can be “like cheap therapy” and very beneficial for retiring athletes.

He said: “You have time to think, to process things.

“It helps with your next steps and it clears your mind…

“Just going for a walk with friends and taking things through helps.

“It gives you a connection to yourself. There’s nothing more refreshing than big, deep breaths outdoors.”

No matter the setting, the Welshman finds a sense of calm in nature.

He said: “When I’m outdoors, whether I’m on a mountain or in the woodlands, even on the beach, I feel calm.

“I wouldn’t say I’m uptight but it just seems to take me away from everything else.”
