Jurrien Timber urges Arsenal players and fans to handle Premier League title 'anxiety'

Jurrien Timber says Arsenal players can feel "anxiety" from the supporters as they chase the Premier League title.

The Dutch defender scored the winner as the Gunners beat Chelsea 2-1 on Sunday (01.03.26) to move five points clear at the top but feels that the team must address their tension after they survived a late Blues onslaught to claim an important victory.

Asked about the nerves of the Emirates Stadium crowd, Timber said: "Of course you feel it, especially at the end.

"I think we stopped playing a bit, which was unnecessary – especially with a man up. It is something we need to work on and talk about because it happened a couple of times this season already. Things like this… they happen, especially against a good team like Chelsea. So it is definitely something we need to speak about.

"It happened as well this season that we got through it when it got nervous but also a couple of times we didn’t. It is part of the game and you have to understand what happens in the moment and the energy within the place, within the crowd, anxiety."

Timber won two Eredivisie titles with his former club Ajax but doesn't think this entitles him to give advice to his team-mates as they bid to win Arsenal's first league crown since 2004.

The full-back said: "It is hard because you don’t want to act like you are the one that knows everything or you are the wise one. At the same time, it is so different. Every season is so different but also the Premier League is so different compared to the Dutch league.

"It’s just trying to take the experiences from myself, knowing how important these last games are, but I think everyone knows it. The coach knows it really well, and it is going to be exciting."
