Jannik Sinner thrilled to complete hard-court title set with Indian Wells glory

Jannik Sinner says it "means a lot" to have completed the clean sweep of major hard-court titles with victory at Indian Wells.

The Italian tennis ace claimed his first title at the California event with a straight-sets win over Daniil Medvedev in Sunday's (15.03.26) final and is proud to join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in an exclusive club of success on the surface.

Sinner said: "I knew that this was a tournament I haven't won, so I wanted to prepare in the best possible way, as professionally as possible.

"Having this achievement now means a lot to me. Now I have couple of days to relax - there is not so much time in between here and Miami.

"It's again an important tournament in Miami, but we try to play the best tennis possible there too."

Sinner also hailed former world number one Medvedev for his efforts in reaching the final.

The four-time Grand Slam champion told Sky Sports Tennis: "Seeing Daniil playing at this level is important for tennis. I feel like when he plays at his best he's very tough to beat as we saw today, but I'm very happy."

Sinner also took the opportunity to congratulate Italy's young F1 star Kimi Antonelli - who took his first career victory at the Chinese Grand Prix earlier in the day.

The world number two said: "It has been a special day for Italy because I'm a huge Formula One fan.

"Having a very young Italian, Kimi, bringing Italy back home at the top. It's amazing. Thanks Kimi."

Medvedev was unable to repeat his semi-final victory against Carlos Alcaraz in the showpiece but hailed the rivalry that exists between Sinner and the Spaniard.

The Russian ace said: "I tried my best. It was a good match. Whenever you play Carlos I love to see it. Now I was happy to not let Carlos play you again but love watching you guys. Go for it, continue winning. Never stop - and to your team as well."
