Jamie Donaldson relishing senior golf

Jamie Donaldson has been “surprised” by the standard of golf on the Legends Tour.

The Welshman turned 50 in October and is now playing in the European Senior Tour – which is for men over 50 – and while he’s already claimed two victories, he insisted it hasn’t been easy.

He told Today’s Golfer magazine: “I’ve won already, but it’s not easy, I promise you.

“The standard has surprised me and that’s great for the tour and makes me relish the competition.”

After injuries took a toll on his body, Jamie was ready to take on the new challenge of senior golf.

He said: “After the wrist and shoulder operations, plus back problems at the end of my late 40s, I was ready for something different so was looking forward to turning 50 and joining the Legends Tour.

“I was sort of competitive towards the end of the DP World career – fourth in Africa two years ago, second at Wentworth three years ago – but the injuries the last couple of years affected me.

“So I’m enjoying it on the Legends.”

Jamie’s interest in golf began when he was a child and caddied for his father.

He said: “My father was a five-handicap and I used to caddie for him, which was great fun because he had a terrible temper and he used to chuck clubs up trees – and I loved climbing trees.

“That’s when I realised I quite liked this game.”
