The boxer celebrated his milestone birthday in January but was preparing for his fight with Jermaine Franklin – which has been moved from its original date of 24 January to 28 March – so had no interest in partying hard, though he’ll mark the occasion at a later date.
He told Boxing News magazine: “On my 21st birthday, I did a HIIT run, had a boxing session, and then my family said they’d booked a restaurant.
“Everybody was there as a surprise. They were expecting me to stay up and party or whatever, but I had sparring the next morning so I went home early.
“They said, ‘We’ll celebrate your birthday after your fight.’ Now that my fight’s postponed, I think I’m going to have a birthday [celebration] in mid-May.”
Moses never enjoys parties and thinks his success in boxing is in part due to his discipline and focus.
He said: “When I’m at these parties, I know you’ve got to enjoy yourself, but for me, personally, it’s like, ‘I’m not really doing my purpose’.
“I almost have the feeling of, ‘I need to get back in the gym.’
“A lot of my friends could have been something but then they got caught up in the party life.
“I wasn’t the most talented, I didn’t hit the hardest, I wasn’t the best, but I had the consistency to stay [in the gym], whereas everyone else went to parties.”
