Rory McIlroy used the Green Jacket as part of his Halloween costume.

The 36-year-old golfer won the coveted garment after claiming victory in The Masters last year and while he expected to wear it all the time, he’s rarely broken it out of his wardrobe.

Asked how often he wears the Green Jacket, he told Today’s Golfer magazine: “Not as often as I thought I would.

“I wore it on Halloween.

“My daughter, Poppy, wanted to be Glinda from Wicket so I was the Wizard of Oz and he wears a green jacket so I thought it was appropriate.

“But honestly, I thought I would never take it off, but it becomes normal.

“It’s always a nice excuse to put it back on.”

Rory has tried not to watch his victory back too much but he still feels emotional when he does.

He said: “Some of it’s a blur. Some of it I’ve tried to forget. And some of it I’ve tried to keep in the memory bank.

“Whenever I go back and watch the highlights of the back nine I sort of fast-forward through 13 and 14 so I can watch the good bits.

“I remember the feeling of the shot over 15, but I remember all of it.

“I’ve tried not to watch it back too much, because I feel like when you watch it back a lot, you don’t remember it through your eyes and through your feelings – you remember it through watching what you’ve seen on TV.

“But every time I see that scene on the 18th green it still gets me a little emotional and choked up, because when you’ve wanted something for so long and it finally comes, just that release of emotion is very, very cool.”
