Derek Chisora has 'green light' for Deontay Wilder rematch

Derek Chisora's wife has given him the "green light" for a rematch against Deontay Wilder.

The heavyweight fighter was beaten by split decision by the former world champion in a gripping fight last month and has revealed that he is in talks about a rematch - even though he had previously vowed to retire after the bout.

Chisora, 42, told Sky Sports News: "I'm working on the rematch. The wife has given me the green light, so I will be doing the rematch.

"I haven't confirmed it yet. I have a couple meetings (on Wednesday) (13.05.26) and we will see how that goes.

"He [Wilder] is keen because he's upset with the result as well. Yes he might have won but he's upset, so we are going to run it back."

However, Chisora stressed that he is likely to hang up his gloves after the Wilder rematch.

The fighter said: "That's it. [At the] end of this year I will retire."

Meanwhile, Chisora also gave his verdict on the world title fight between Brits Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois - in which the latter claimed the WBO world title to become a two-time world champion.

The veteran boxer said: "Wardley let himself down but Daniel came in with the way of like, 'I'm here to destroy'. He walked into the ring sweating, ready to rock and roll.

"I believe Fabio didn't respect Daniel. Fabio hit him with everything he had but Daniel kept getting up and fighting.

"I would like to see the rematch again. It was a good fight. We enjoyed it, and congratulations to Daniel Dubois for having an amazing victory."

Some observers have questioned why the fight wasn't stopped earlier due to the punishment Wardley was taking, but Chisora cited the controversial stoppage in Carl Froch's win over George Groves in 2013 as a reason for the referee not to step in too soon.

He said: "In boxing you don't know. in boxing. If you stop it earlier people say, 'Why did you stop it early?'

"We saw it with George Groves and Carl Froch [in the first fight] and George went mad, everyone went crazy."
