The former Bournemouth manager is poised to become the Reds' new head coach after they sacked Arne Slot following a poor second season in charge.

As reported by The Athletic, Iraola, 43, is set to sign a two-year contract, which follows his approach with both deals he signed with Bournemouth.

He is out of contract at the end of the season.

A formal announcement confirming his appointment is set to be made at some point this week.

Meanwhile, he's keen to bring Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper, his assistants at the Cherries, to be part of his staff at Liverpool.

BBC Sport added that Bournemouth are yet to receive formal contact from either of the assistants about their own futures.

Iraola guided the Cherries to sixth place in the Premier League this season, earning them a spot in next season's Europa League.

They finished just three points shy of Liverpool, who will be in the Champions League for 2026/27, but suffered a fall from grace after Slot won the Premier League in the previous campaign.

Slot's exit was confirmed over the weekend.

Fenway Sports Group, the club's owners, said in a statement: "That this was a difficult decision for us to make as a club goes without saying.

"The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC in the time that he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and - most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves - successful.

"As such, our appreciation for everything he has achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was underpinned by a work ethic, a diligence and a level of expertise which further underlined our view that he is a leader in his field."

However, FSG insisted that "the team's trajectory is best addressed through a change of direction".

They added: "That does not diminish the work Arne has done here, or the respect we have for him. Nor is it a reflection of his talents.

"Rather, it is indicative of the need for a different approach.

"Arne leaves with our gratitude, with a Premier League title to his name, and with the knowledge that he and his family will always be welcomed back at Anfield."
