Jose Mourinho set to be confirmed as Real Madrid boss after Perez's presidential win

Jose Mourinho is set to be announced as the new Real Madrid head coach after Florentino Perez was re-elected as club president.

The 63-year-old manager's new three-year deal at Real can now be made valid after the 79-year-old official, who has held the position since 2009, has been confirmed as president until 2030.

Perez said in a statement: "We have won the elections and will continue working to keep winning titles. I am still here and I am here to defend Real Madrid.

"We will continue working so that Real Madrid keeps winning titles, and we will fight until the end to achieve the 16th European Cup.

"We will continue to take pride in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the best stadium in the world.

"Proud to have the best players in the world, proud to welcome back one of the best coaches in the world, a Madridista like Jose Mourinho.

"And rest assured, with me as president, Real Madrid has been, is, and will always remain owned by its members."

Perez won with 65 percent of the vote.

The club is owned entirely by members who get to vote on their president, although his was the first election in two decades to feature a challenger.

Perez's victory was expected, while he also made a promise for the transfer window if he did win.

He told Spain's Horizonte TV show: "I have some news for you.

"On Tuesday or so, I'm going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a great player. It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history."

He ruled out Jeremy Doku, Michael Olise and Erling Haaland, be teased that the target would be "a player from midfield who can go forward".

He teased: "The player is not from the Premier League. And the first thing we'll do is talk to the club.

"It's a signing meant to generate excitement because that's what it's all about, generating excitement."
