The retiring British tennis star has played the final singles match of his career after losing to Australian Tristan Schoolkate in the second round of Wimbledon qualifying on Wednesday (24.06.26) and claims that he could tell he wouldn't be receiving a place in the main draw by the attitudes of All England Club members.
Evans said: "Listen, I knew the wildcard wasn’t coming long before. I know a lot of the people in tennis have big titles, and in that building (referring to the All England Club) over there. I’ve grown up around clubs (so) I can read people.
"When they don’t say hello to you and certain things, you have a fair idea. They keep their distance. I’m not the only one either. I knew it wasn’t coming. And you know what I actually really enjoyed that court and without the wildcard I wouldn’t have got a chance, so they actually helped me have a better experience than I thought I was going to have.
"It was amazing and great fans out there and hopefully some Brits are on that court tomorrow and qualify."
Evans - who has been invited to play in the men's doubles at Wimbledon with British youngster Henry Searle - explained that he was expecting the bad news after not being invited to play at the ATP Challenger Ilkley earlier this month.
He said: "If you’re not getting one there (at Ilkley), I think you don’t need to be a rocket scientist, which I certainly am not, to work out I wasn’t getting one into the main draw of Wimbledon or getting any help.
"I wrote my letter as well as I could. Maybe my punctuation and grammar wasn’t great. It got there, at least. I know it got there."
Evans - who is retiring from tennis following Wimbledon - suggested that he is unlikely to champion British tennis as much due to the governing body's lack of support for him.
He said: "Not one member of the LTA watched one of my matches. Actually Colin Beecher did, because he’s my friend. It’s not that deep, chaps, or ladies, it’s just like. … If that’s how you want to f****** act, carry on. It’s pathetic.
"I won’t be campaigning like I used to for Davis Cup and represent your country because it didn’t get me very far, did it?"
