The 32-year-old boxer hung up his gloves in May and is currently spending time at home with partner Charlotte and their kids Layton, 14, Kai, 12, and six-year-old Laila, but he admitted he still has an urge to get back in the ring.
He told Boxing News magazine: “If I didn’t have kids, I would fight until the wheels came off.
“I have other people to think of. I can’t be selfish.
“I’m doing nothing at the minute. I’m looking for employment. I’ve never had a job. I boxed and worked for myself.
“I’ve been a bit spoilt. I don’t want to leave the house at eight and get back at five. I’m a bit of a recluse.
“I don’t like being out of the house that much.
“Right now, I want to box again, but when I think back to how I felt in my last fight, I know it’s not a good idea.”
Sam bowed out after a 10th-round stoppage defeat to Conah Walker, and while it wasn’t as “gruelling” as some of his previous fights, he knew at the time he didn’t want to get back in the ring.
He recalled:” The fight wasn’t that gruelling.
“It wasn’t as hard as some fights I’ve had.
“It wasn’t as if I was getting peppered.
“It was how I felt in between rounds. I was sitting there thinking, ‘I can’t do this again.’
“There was no reason for me to think that unless I didn’t want to be there.”
