The 43-year-old former striker was appointed manager of the National League side in March and he finds the idea of teaching his players the things he learned on the pitch over the years “hugely exciting”.

Asked if Woking’s forwards enjoy having him as a coach, he told FourFourTwo magazine:” A lot, I hope.

“There are tricks of the trade and pearls of wisdom you pick up as a centre-forward in your own career – when to take a shot, how to take it, whether you need power or finesse in certain situations.

“I worked with the kids at Tottenham and helped them improve and now it’s my job to do that with my own team. It’s hugely exciting.”

Jermain wants Woking to have a “good season” but doesn’t want to put too much pressure on his players by publicly revealing his targets before the new campaign has begun.

He said: “It’s unfair to put too much pressure on the players, because obviously we want to have a good season and it’s my job to make sure the boys are ready.

“They’ve had their off seasons and they want to come back and shine.

“The key thing is to start well, get a little bit of momentum. A competitive environment is what matters at a club, and then we’ll see what happens.

“If I speak to FourFourTwo again come Christmas time, I might have more to say on specific targets.”
