Aki to skipper Baa-Baas at Twickenham

Connacht and Ireland centre Bundee Aki has been named Barbarians captain for the clash against England on May 27.

Bristol coach Pat Lam will be in charge of the Baa-Baas for the Twickenham match and he has confirmed Aki will captain his side.

Aki was part of Ireland's Six Nations Grand Slam-winning side earlier this year and Lam says he's the perfect man to lead the Barbarians, praising his competitive streak and battling qualities.

"I'd like to thank Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt for making Bundee available to us as he'll be a big asset for the Barbarians," said Lam.

"The big thing about Bundee is that he's an unbelievable competitor. A lot of the Pacific Island boys have that X-factor but he loves putting his head in the dark places and thriving in turnover and contact work.

"He's a huge leader on the field and he has a great understanding and passion for the way I like the team to play."

Lam is well aware just how tough it will be against the Red Rose in the Quilter Cup showdown but knows Aki will be a big asset.

He added: "England is a game we're going to have to work hard in and he epitomises what we need to do.

"We need the courage to play and move the ball and also to know when we have to tighten things up, and he'll be at the centre of that."

Charles Piutau and Scotland scrum-half Greig Laidlaw are among the other players who have so far been named as featuring for the Baa-Baas against England.
