Maddison start pleases Puel

Leicester boss Claude Puel says James Maddison showed his ability despite being chucked in at the deep end against Manchester United.

The big-money summer signing from Norwich City was handed his first competitive Foxes start at Old Trafford, as Leicester suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Red Devils on Friday night.

Considering the strength of opposition and the occasion, Puel feels Maddison did well and believes it bodes well for the future of the highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder.

"It was his first game in the Premier League and he played well, with quality," said Puel. "It's tough to play your first game at Old Trafford and in a difficult position behind the striker.

"Normally, he played box-to-box in his former club and I think he has the ability to play in this position (behind the striker).

"He played it well, to organise the play. He has the ability to keep the ball under pressure also and to give good service for his team-mates. It's encouraging for the future."
