'The destruction of the human experience': Hugh Grant leads backlash against Apple's iPad Pro ad

Apple has come under fire by the likes of Hugh Grant and Asif Kapadia for its controversial iPad Pro advert.

The “Crush!” trailer declared the death of items including the piano, an arcade machine, a TV, books and many more items by having them destroyed to showcase that the tablet can do it all.

CEO Tim Cook announced: "Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things it’ll be used to create."

Reacting on X, 'Notting Hill' star Grant declared it: “The destruction of the human experience. Courtesy of Silicon Valley.”

Filmmaker Kapadia wrote: “Like iPads but don’t know why anyone thought this ad was a good idea. It is the most honest metaphor for what tech companies do to the arts, to artists musicians, creators, writers, filmmakers: squeeze them, use them, not pay well, take everything then say it’s all created by them. (sic)"

Actor and filmmaker Justine Bateman responded to Cook's post: “Truly, what is wrong with you?”

The powerful machine boasts a OLED display and Apple's own M4 chip, making the device 50 per cent faster than its predecessor.

The tech giant's senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus, said the Pro “pioneers our most advanced technologies, and pushes the limits of what an iPad can be."
