Google announces Gemini app for iPad

Google has announced a dedicated Gemini app for iPad.

The artificial intelligence (AI) model has been available on iPhones since November 2024, though Google has now confirmed it has made a dedicated iPadOS app for Apple’s tablets that is a “seamless and optimised experience” that differs from the iOS version.

Google spokesperson Elijah Lawal told The Verge the app can be used in the split view on iPad to allow for multitasking, and will include features such as Gemini Live, Deep Research and Audio Overview.

For Gemini Live, users will be able to have “natural, free-flowing conversations in over 45 languages”, while Deep Research can “quickly generate reports and gather information, saving significant time”.

As for Audio Overview, iPad users will now be able to “easily process and understand audio files” thanks to the Gemini app.

Lawal added: “Speaking of updated features, we’ve significantly expanded the availability of Audio Overview.

“Following great initial feedback, this feature, which initially launched in English for Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers, is now available in over 45 languages globally.”

The Gemini iPad app also includes the Canvas feature, which can “co-create and edit documents and code in an innovative space built for collaboration with AI”.

Meanwhile, the machine-learning model can also “bring your ideas to life by generating stunning, varied images and videos directly on your iPad” through image and video generation.

The Google Gemini app is now available on the App Store on iOS and iPadOS in countries where the model is currently offered.
