Apple unveils new M5 MacBook Pro and iPad Pro

Apple has officially unveiled the M5 MacBook Pro and M5 iPad Pro.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro, revealed alongside the updated iPad Pro, marks Apple’s most significant notebook upgrade since the M3 series.

The M5 chip - built on an advanced 3-nanometre process - delivers up to 3.5x faster CPU performance and 1.6x better graphics than its predecessor, according to Apple.

The Cupertino-based company says the machine also features improved battery life, lasting up to 24 hours on a single charge.

Apple has refreshed the MacBook Pro’s Liquid Retina XDR display with higher peak brightness and deeper contrast, while also adding support for AI-driven video editing and image rendering through Apple Intelligence - the company’s integrated suite of generative AI tools.

The laptop retains the familiar aluminium design, but introduces a new Graphite colour finish exclusive to the M5 model.

The M5 iPad Pro follows suit, featuring the same chip and a slimmer chassis that Apple calls its “thinnest device ever”.

The new tablet supports next-gen OLED display technology, dubbed Tandem OLED, which offers better brightness and energy efficiency.

Apple has said the new iPad delivers console-level graphics performance and enhanced multitasking for creative professionals using apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro.

John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said in a statement: “With M5, we’re setting a new benchmark for performance and power efficiency in personal computing.

“These devices redefine what users can expect from the Mac and iPad experience.”

The M5 MacBook Pro ships with macOS Tahoe while the M5 iPad Pro has iPadOS 26, with pre-orders for both devices open now and availability beginning later this month.
