According to industry insider NateTheHate, the project will centre on Faye — also known as Laufey — the late wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier previously teased that the studio’s next title was "not a new IP but it might feel like one", fuelling speculation that Sony Santa Monica was preparing to expand the franchise in a new direction.
NateTheHate wrote online: "Yes, the game is set within the God of War universe and the lead character will be Faye."
The leaker added that the current plan is a reveal later this year with a potential release in the first half of 2027, barring delays.
Faye has played a pivotal — if often unseen — role in the Norse saga. The 2018 reboot begins with her death, setting Kratos and Atreus on a journey to scatter her ashes from the highest peak in the Nine Realms. Later revelations confirm she was a Jötunn, or Frost Giant, adding new layers to the mythology.
In God of War Ragnarök, she appears in extended flashback sequences, portrayed by actress Deborah Ann Woll.
A Faye-led game could explore her past as a warrior and her hidden connection to the giants — potentially offering a fresh combat style and narrative tone distinct from Kratos’ brutal path.
The rumoured project follows other recent franchise developments, including a reported remake of the original Greek-era trilogy.
While Sony has yet to confirm the spin-off officially, the idea of stepping into Faye’s boots signals a bold evolution for one of PlayStation’s most celebrated series.
