The ChatGPT manufacturer's proposals have set out a range of ideas to enable society to adjust the age of AI - something it explained will bring both benefits and disruptions to our lives.
Among the firm's suggestions were creating more job opportunities in people-facing sectors such as childcare, education and healthcare.
OpenAI explained that its initial set of ideas - which are chiefly aimed at the US - aim to encourage discussion about the action required as AI systems become more capable.
Rapid reductions in the time taken by AI tools to complete certain tasks mean a transition to advanced AI is imminent, OpenAI has announced in its Industrial Policy for the Intelligence Age report.
It said: "If progress continues, we can expect systems to be capable of carrying out projects that currently take people months.
"This shift will reshape how organisations run, how knowledge is created, and how people find meaning and opportunity."
OpenAI argues that firms should be incentivised to find "durable improvements in workers' benefits" - such as piloting four-day work weeks with no loss in pay.
It also suggests that businesses could increase retirement contributions, cover more healthcare costs and subsidise childcare.
It isn't the first time that a major AI firm has set out a vision for social and economic changes needed to manage increased use of the tech.
Some OpenAI suggestions, such as creating a "public wealth fund" to give citizens a stake in AI-driven growth, are similar to a set of policy ideas that were published by rival firm Anthropic last October.
This suggested that workers and students should be equipped with the skills needed for emerging jobs, and that planning processes should be amended to allow for more energy and computing infrastructure.
