Cyberpunk 2077 devs CD Projekt Red still working on 'full redemption arc'

CD Projekt Red bosses don't think they have completed a "full redemption arc" since Cyberpunk 2077.

After the infamously disastrous launch of the open world game in 2020, the reaction from players and critics was so strong that investors debated suing the studio for "materially misleading information", and now joint CEO MichaƂ Nowakowski has opened up on the "heartbreaking" period.

He told Edge's Knowledge newsletter: "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc.

"I'm convinced that we lost the faith of some people indefinitely, and that's a fair thing. But I do hope we will be able to make it back – if not with The Witcher 4, then with whatever comes next."

However, he noted that the team is now full of "battled-hardened veterans" who have come through an incredible difficult time.

He said: "We were left with seasoned, battle-hardened veterans; leaders who were able to carry a different kind of challenge on their shoulders."

Since the Cyberpunk 2077 release, and its Phantom Liberty DLC resulted in a positive reaction from 95 percent of the over 7,000 reviews.

As for the future, CJ Projekt Red wants to focus on quality rather than quantity, which means putting more event into current and upcoming titles.

Nowakowski added: "Our dream is to be making more games, although we never want to turn into the studio that's going to be launching a big game every year.

"It may happen, but this is not the goal. We have a rough ten-year rolling plan, but the goal is not to flood the games market with CDPR games.

"We just want to make really cool games, and we don't want to have a ton of IPs, either. We're not planning to grow in that way."
