The social media app is launching a new feature that will let users start private group messages around specific Stories, using a new "join chat" sticker that can be implemented into the images they upload to their Instagram Story.
Currently, Stories stay active on the site for 24 hours, and can be integrated with features like polls, links, music, questions that can be answered by viewers, countdowns, and hashtags.
The new feature - which was announced on Instagram's official Twitter account on Tuesday (02.07.19) - will see another integrated feature added to the Stories function, where followers can tap on a "join chat" sticker to be added to a private group chat around that Story.
Authors of the Story will still have the ability to approve or deny requests.
Instagram's tweet read: "Introducing the new chat sticker in Stories. Now, there's an easy way to start conversations with a group of friends right from your story."
The new feature comes after the photo sharing app recently scrapped plans for a dedicated direct messaging app, and follows more changes that have been made to the site including a revamped Explore section, which features Stories and a donation sticker.
