Disney announces refreshed look for Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World

Cinderella Castle is getting a new paint job.

The centrepiece of Magic Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, will get a refreshed colour palette that pays tribute to its original look.

Announced by Walt Disney Imagineering during the Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles panel at Destination D23 on August 31, the 189ft-castle will get a lick of grey, cream, soft blues and touches of gold paint, designed to enhance its architecture.

It comes after Cinderella Castle received a rose gold makeover for the resort's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2020.

The project's imagineers - a term made by Disney for the creative and technical experts behind Disney's theme parks and attractions - have spent months researching historic overlays and colour schemes, to ensure it reflects the legacy of the iconic landmark.

Cinderella Castle's new palette has been carefully crafted to shimmer beneath the Florida sunshine, with deep blues and radiant golds echoing the hues chosen when the Magic Kingdom Park - which opened in October 1971 - was being designed over 50 years ago.

To ensure the castle's colours pop in the humid and stormy weather conditions that Florida is known for, the paint undergoes accelerated UV and weather testing, simulating years of sun exposure.

Walt Disney World has not yet announced a timeframe for the upcoming Cinderella Castle repaint works.
