Iran war sparks rise in Easter staycations for UK tourists

The Iran war has sparked a rise in Easter staycations for UK tourists looking to avoid the Middle East.

Holiday venues in Yorkshire have seen a rise in demand for bookings over Easter, with people looking to stay closer to hope due to the war between Iran and the US.

In a recent survey by Visit England, it was reported that 12.5 million people were planning an overnight holiday in the UK for Easter weekend, compared to 10.6 million staying in the UK at the same time in 2025.

Paul Reynolds, manager at Traddock Hotel in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, told the BBC: "We've had four or five bookings from people who have had their holidays cancelled.

"They were disappointed and made the decision to treat themselves in the UK.

"They've come and stayed for in some cases five nights and enjoyed what the Dales has to offer"

And Cottage in the Dales owner Diane Howarth noted that the surge in bookings has also been seen among the self-catering sector.

She added: "A staycation boom is very welcome, it helps fill the gaps that we have. "Especially since the cost of our heating oil has more than doubled in the last couple of weeks, which was a big shock."

Meanwhile, Welcome to Yorkshire has noted how any boost in holiday bookings will be a welcome sight to other businesses in the area.

A spokeswoman for the organisation said: "With increased visitors obviously you see more table bookings, more travel spending, so it really is a good story for businesses in the Yorkshire region."
