Nicolas Pepe hoping for more playing time at Arsenal

Nicolas Pepe wants more playing time at Arsenal.

The Gunners' record signing is yet to make an impact in the Premier League so far this term despite impressing in cup competitions and has declared his desire for more game time.

Pepe told French outlet Canal Plus: "My goal is to play more. To have a little more playing time.

"A player who plays is happy. For me, I would like to play a little more to find a smile again."

The winger revealed that he has been left "frustrated" as manager Mikel Arteta consistently leaves him on the bench.

Pepe explained: "He wants me to be 100 per cent focused during the 90 minutes of the match. Afterwards, I see during training that I will be a substitute the following weekend.

"But the coach speaks to me, he also has assistants who are there for that. But it is frustrating for any player to be on the bench."

The Ivorian also expressed a determination to be more than just a "super-sub" for the Premier League side.

Pepe said: "A super-sub role? The coach makes his choices. It's up to me to show him that I don't have that role."

Arteta had previously challenged Pepe to put in more consistent performances to establish a place in the team.

The Spanish coach said: "He's not been first choice in all of the games at the moment but he's played a lot of moments. Some have been better than others.

"It's about finding the consistency, not through the games but during the games as well to be more incisive, and do the right things on many occasions when he has to make the right decision on the pitch."
