Rio Ferdinand believes Liverpool will make the top four in the Premier League

Rio Ferdinand has backtracked and admitted he believes Liverpool will make the top four in the Premier League.

The 42-year-old retired footballer had originally predicted that Jurgen Klopp's team wouldn't manage the feat, but after being impressed with their win 3-0 against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend, he had a change of heart.

Liverpool is now up to fifth place in the table, positioning them just two points behind Chelsea, who lost to West Brom on Saturday (03.04.21).

Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “I think Liverpool are going to get in there now. The result they got at the weekend, the performance and the confidence that will give that team."

He added: “Fabinho back as well is a huge boost. Liverpool, with how they’ve been in the last two seasons, they have that know-how, that nous to go and put a run of results together.

“Out of Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool and Spurs I think Liverpool is the one who could go on a six, seven-game run.

“I’ve got a sneaky feeling they will [make it]. I hope not if I’m being honest!”

Diogo Jota helped the Reds claim victory over the Gunners with two goals after he left the bench.

And the 24-year-old Portuguese player believes they have what it takes to beat Real Madrid in the quarterfinals on Tuesday (06.04.21).

He said after the win: "Everyone is working hard and well and now we have that hard game against Real and we want to do that as well."
