The recently-appointed England coach – who represented her country over 300 times in her two-decade career – admitted she isn’t as intense as she was on the field and has a lot more “empathy” these days.
She told Wisden Cricket Monthly magazine: “Oh yeah, I’m very different.
“I’m certainly more patient as a coach, and I’ve got a lot more empathy.”
Charlotte believes the shift came from her England playing career ending abruptly in 2016 when then-coach Mark Robinson made it clear he wouldn’t be considering her again following a World T20 semi-final defeat to Australia while struggling with a knee problem.
She said: “To miss out like I did and have that hurt, I have a huge amount of empathy now for when I don’t select someone.
“I don’t like to compare them but I’ve learned a lot from my playing days.
“Now I want to understand what makes players tick.”
Charlotte has warned her players she has “incredibly high standards” but still wants them to enjoy the game.
She said:” We’ve got to sharpen up. The players that know me will know that I’ve got incredibly high standards, but equally I like having fun and they’ll have a lot of fun along the way, but we’ve got to work hard.”
