The 22-year-old midfielder hit the back of the net in a 3-2 home win against Southampton in January and he felt it took away some “pressure” when he bagged his first Premier League goal.
He told FourFourTwo magazine: “I’d been waiting a long time for my first Premier League goal and my first Forest goal.
“I was really happy when that hit the back of the net.
“It took a little bit of pressure off, now I can get some more.”
Elliot has moved into a deeper position since moving to Forest from Newcastle United and he gets a “buzz” out of his new role on the pitch.
He said: “I’ve played much deeper at Forest, so some out-of-possession things and defending.
“Several people have said to me, ‘I didn’t realise that was a strong part of your game.’
“It’s a big aspect of my game. If you want to play there, you have to do the dirty side of it.
“I actually enjoy it too – I get a buzz out of it.
“All through the Newcastle academy, I grew up as a No. 8, playing centre-mid.
“When you come up to the first team, you may get put in the more attacking positions, coming off the bench to cause problems for the opposing team.
“But here I’ve fallen back into the position I started in.”
