Alessia Russo pledges to 'lead' at Euro 2025

Alessia Russo thinks it is “important to lead” the younger players at Euro 2025.

The Arsenal striker was a newcomer to the tournament in 2022 and she’s admitted her role within the squad is different for the upcoming games because she’s more senior now.

She told FourFourTwo magazine: “In 2022, it was my first tournament, so I just wanted to go in, enjoy it and soak up the experience, taking every day as it came.

“Now being more experienced, it’s important to lead, whether that’s on the pitch or helping the younger players who want to tap into that.

“I need to be ready to perform, as we know the standard – you need to be at your best.”

Alessia may not be as vocal as some of the other Lionesses but she still thinks she can help the less experienced players.

She said: “It’s tough, but that’s what’s great about a team sport, because you have so many different players who add different qualities.

“We have so many people who are fantastic leaders, whether that’s on the pitch with their communication, or by leading by example, or just checking in if you need it.

“I’m a quiet person, but I’ll always help if anyone needs me and I’ll always try to be at my best, so hopefully that leads by example.

“Every time you enter the England environment, you want to be 100 per cent.

“Never take a training session for granted and never take any England moment for granted.”
