Daniel Dubois vows to end Oleksandr Usyk’s boxing career in Wembley clash

Daniel Dubois is determined to push Oleksandr Usyk to retire from boxing by defeating him in their fight.

Dynamite, 27, is due to take on The Cat, 38, at Wembley Stadium on 19 July for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, and Dubois - who lost to Usyk in their first fight in August 2023 - is looking for revenge.

When Sky Sports asked whether this would be his last fight with Usyk, Dubois said: “Probably, possibly yes, I'm going in there to do as much damage as possible.”

The boxer pointed to Usyk recently splitting from his long-time promoter Alexander Krassyuk as a sign he was looking to throw in the towel soon.

Dubois said: “These things are happening for a reason and I'm just going to be ready to take the titles away from him. But all these things are happening for a reason.”

Dubois added he was “tunnel vision on [his] legacy”.

He said: “I’m just tunnel vision on my legacy. My journey. Making my legacy, making my mark on this sport and I worked really hard to get here.

“I’m not going to be denied now. I’m at the door and I’m just going to kick it in.”

Even so, the fighter insisted he would still be the “underdog” in the fight.

He said: “‘[I’m] the underdog all the way. That’s been the story of my career, so I want to keep that mindset.

“I’m an underdog for life and I’m just going to keep breaking people’s hearts - the haters’ hearts, and keep proving them wrong.”

The boxer had also vowed to “take over” the heavyweight divison from Oleksandr Usyk.

He said of the fight: “Fireworks, it's going to be bombs away on the night.

“I’m going to be the one throwing the bombs, coming through whatever I've got to come through. I'm not going to be denied.

“I see him as a top guy, he's one of the best ranked in the world but now I think it's my time. You know I'm the young lion here, I've got to prove I'm a real force, a new force in the division and I'm going to take over.

"Prepare, prepare, fight, destruction, yeah.”
