The Bronze Bomber, 39, is set to face Too Nice, 37, in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday (27.06.25) in what will be Wilder’s first fight in over a year, and the boxer’s co-manager Shelly Finkel has now revealed the team is open to “anything” following the Herndon match.
Finkel told Sky Sports: “First things first is Friday. If that goes well, we're open to discussing anything.”
Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently said there was “potential” that the 35-year-old boxer could face off with Wilder later this year before a possible Tyson Fury bout.
Hearn said: “I know [Wilder is] a name that's been mentioned.
“There is a potential that AJ could fight Deontay Wilder in October, November, December, and then fight Tyson Fury, and then he's kind of got the full set in terms of every elite heavyweight of this generation, he's faced in the ring.”
Following his losses to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker, Wilder admitted he had “lost [his] confidence”, though the former WBC world heavyweight champion insisted “it’s back” in time for his Herndon fight.
Wilder told BoxingScene: “I mean, I thought about retirement many times. But with the Zhang and the Parker fight, it actually helped me in a lot of ways to analyse what the hell was going on with me.
“I wasn’t the same person. It wasn’t the same Deontay at all. There was a lot of s*** going on with me at the time, inside and outside of the ring. I had to go get a sports psychologist. That’s how bad it got.”
Wilder - who had surgery to fix damage to his right shoulder - emphasised he was “going to feel amazing” in the ring with Herndon now he was injury-free.
He said: “I’m going to feel amazing. You know, my mind is back; my spirit.
“Physically, I’m back. I’m free of injuries now. They used to call me ‘Windmill Wilder’.
“I ain’t have that windmill no more. I got that motherf***** now. I’ve had two surgeries on my shoulders. It had cost me to still be injured at least the last three to four years of my career.”
He concluded: “My next outing is going to be the measuring stick for a lot of things. I’m coming to do what I’ve always come to do – whoop some a**.”
