The Magpies were held to a stalemate against The Cherries in their Premier League match on Sunday (21.09.25), and the 47-year-old manager has conceded Newcastle find it “hard to score away from home”.
Speaking with the BBC after the game, he said: “We know Bournemouth are a really good team.
“We limited them to long shots and Nick [Pope] made some good saves. We didn't get our attacking game going.”
In the game, Newcastle managed just one shot on target, with four in total.
When asked about failing to produce a shot in the second half, Howe said: “It's not good. You want to create chances and clear-cut chances. It didn't feel like that in our performance. We are going through one of those phases where it's hard to score away from home.”
Howe had started Joe Willock and Lewis Miley in place of first-choice mudfielders Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
The manager explained he had chose to do so to “protect” Joelinton after he was injured during Newcastle's match with Liverpool last month.
He said: “Joelinton we have to really protect from injury. He's just back. Bruno is different but the two who played today did really well.
“We're evolving and changing as an attacking force. Our ability to defend has been at a high level, and we will score goals.”
Newcastle’s best chance came from a flowing move as Nick Woltemade and Sandro Tonali combined to set up Jacob Murphy, whose angled strike was pushed wide by Djordje Petrovic.
Howe also appealed for a penalty early in the second half when Woltemade appeared to have his shirt pulled by Bafode Diakite, but referee Robert Jones waved play on.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola reflected: “We respected each other a lot. It was very different from the last Bournemouth versus Newcastle games.
“If there was a team closer to scoring, I think it was Bournemouth.
“In some games we’ve been more brilliant and we’ve made more of a difference, but we’ve been competitive in every game.
“Even the game we lost against Liverpool, we were there until the last minute. Today, it was a different kind of game, very close.”
The draw with Bournemouth continues Newcastle’s disappointing run this season, having only won one of their six games so far this season.
