The 21-year-old winger left The Red Devils for Chelsea at the end of August, and while Garnacho didn’t get the play time he wanted at Manchester United, he has insited he only had some “difficult moments” at Old Trafford.
During an interview with TNT Sports, he said: “It was difficult moments, training alone, but I have nothing bad to say about my old club Manchester United. Just bad moments in life.”
Garnacho was speaking after Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Benfica in their UEFA Champions League game on Tuesday (30.09.25), and the Spanish player feels like he has found a fresh start at manager Enzo Maresca’s London club.
He said: “I'm very happy to be here and to play in this competition and get the three points today.
“When you're young you dream of Champions League nights. We are here now, so I'm very happy here.”
Chelsea had been handed the win by Benfica defender Richard Rios, 25, who scored an own goal in the first half.
While not netting any goals of their own, The Blues were still able to put on an impressive performance on and off the ball.
Reflecting on the game, Maresca, 45, praised his players for their work.
He said: “Not only on the ball, I think defensively, the way he pressed.
“Then in the last third he has freedom to one v one when he decides. And arriving in the box is important because it's from there we score goals.”
Even so, the head coach conceeded Chelsea were not at their best in the game.
He said: “I think first-half we controlled the game, we scored the goal, we created more chances and we didn't concede nothing apart from two or three transitions, which is normal.
“And then second-half, for different reasons, we dropped. I think we have some players on the pitch that unfortunately are not 100 per cent, but they are playing because we have seven or eight players out.
“But also I think it was good to win tonight, in any case, even if sometimes you need to learn to win in an ugly way, like the last minutes of the game.”
Following their upcoming Premier League matches with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, Chelsea will return to Europe to face Ajax on October 22.
