The 38-year-old defender made a surprise move to the Cypriot champions on a two-year deal in August and he thinks his vast experience will be an asset to the side ahead of their first outing in the Champions League.
He told World Soccer magazine: “Experience is always important, especially in tough competitions.
“I hope to bring calm, leadership, and knowledge to help the team in difficult moments – but the most important thing is if everybody things in the same way, no matter the age.”
And David sees it as his duty to help his younger teammates, particularly his fellow Brazilians, including Bruno Felipe, Jaja, Anderson Silva and Pedrao.
He said: “As an experienced player, it’s part of my responsibility to support the younger ones, especially my compatriots.
“I want to help them grow and succeed.”
Once he finally hangs up his boots, David hopes to move into coaching.
He said: “Coaching interests me. Football has given me so much and I would like to give something back.
“I am starting to prepare for that future, step by step.”
However, retirement isn’t in his thoughts just yet.
He said: “Right now, my motivation is still the game.
“I love football too much to stop.
“I want to keep sharing my experience and also enjoy the adventure of playing for Pafos FC, an exciting project which gives me the opportunity to compete in Europe again.”
