Ruben Amorim ‘frustrated and angry’ as West Ham clinch draw with Manchester United

Ruben Amorim has been left “frustrated and angry” after Manchester United let another lead slip at Old Trafford in a 1-1 draw with West Ham.

In Thursday’s (04.12.25) match, the Red Devils moved ahead through Diogo Dalot’s, 26, first Old Trafford Premier League goal just before the hour, but they failed to finish the game off and were punished late on when Soungoutou Magassa, 22 bundled in an equaliser from a corner.

Amorim has now said his side had thrown away a match that “was clearly ours to win”, warning that United cannot continue to lose control after taking the lead.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “We should have closed the game with the ball because the game was there to win.

“We knew that we needed to defend the advantage far from our goal but the long ball, [Jarrod] Bowen won the first touch and took it to the corner and tried to win the corner. They won the corner and we cannot suffer a goal.”

He added: “The overall performance was not perfect. We had our moments but we lost control in the game in some minutes in the first half and in the second half, especially after the goal.

“The game was clearly ours to win and we had an opportunity with [Matheus] Cunha to finish the game. It’s frustrating, it’s angry. That’s it.”

United had looked the stronger side early in the second half and, Cunha should have doubled the lead, only to see his effort blocked.

The miss proved costly as West Ham grew in confidence, with Bowen winning the corner that led to the equaliser.

The 28-year-old forward met Andy Irving’s inswinging delivery, and although United cleared off the line, the ball fell to Magassa, who finished from close range.

The draw followed 1-0 home defeat to Everton and extended United’s winless run at Old Trafford, leaving them outside the European places at a crucial stage of the season.

Dalot echoed his manager’s frustration after seeing his landmark goal undone by more sloppy game management.

He told Sky Sports, he said: “Obviously disappointed, 1-0 up with 30 minutes to go. I think we need to control much more of the game, especially at Old Trafford.

“We cannot get as anxious as we got after the goal. Maybe a little bit more sloppy with the ball possession. Obviously disappointed with the draw, we had the game there.”
