Ruben Amorim says Manchester United ‘need to find ways of closing games’ following Bournemouth draw

Ruben Amorim has admitted Manchester United “‘need to find ways of closing games” after surrendering multiple leads in a chaotic 4-4 draw with Bournemouth.

The Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Monday (15.12.25) saw The Red Devils lead three times before being held to a draw by The Cherries, a result that left them sixth and denied them the chance to level with Chelsea in fourth.

Amorim has now conceded United’s inability to protect advantages has become a growing theme, with the 39-year-old manager seeing his side drop 10 points from winning positions this season.

Speaking after the match, Amorim said: “It’s really disappointing, we are really disappointed. Crazy game. In the end, we deserved more. It was a fun game for everyone at home.

“People, especially at Old Trafford, want to win, but they want to be inspired to see a team play good football. We did that well in certain moments.”

Amorim pointed to missed chances and game management as decisive factors in a contest that produced 39 shots and nine efforts on target for each side.

He said: “It was a good performance, but we need to be more clinical because we created so many chances. We need to find ways of closing the games because this happened many times.”

United started strongly, with winger Amad Diallo, 23, opening the scoring after 13 minutes, before Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, 25, equalised with a solo effort.

Defensive midfielder Casemiro, 33, restored the hosts’ lead just before the break, but Amorim felt United should have been further ahead.

He said: “We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go to half-time with a different result.”

Bournemouth turned the match on its head early in the second half through striker Evanilson, 26, and winger Marcus Tavernier, also 26, before midfielder Bruno Fernandes, 31, levelled with a free-kick.

Forward Matheus Cunha, 26, then made it 4-3 for United, only for substitute Junior Kroupi, 19, to equalise late on, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens, 23, denying David Brooks, 28, a dramatic winner in stoppage time.

The draw leaves United sixth, level on points with Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Sunderland in a congested top-half race, while Bournemouth sit 13th and winless in seven.
