The 36-year-old boxing star is recovering from minor injuries following a fatal car crash in Nigeria, in which two members of his training team - Sina Ghami and Kevin 'Latif' Ayodele - died after the Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck.
Eyewitness Ajala Yusuf Oluwaseyi as told Sky News that the boxer was visibly shaken by the "deadliness of the incident".
He added: "He was shocked, he couldn't talk."
Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed he has had a conversation with Joshua after the tragedy.
He wrote on X: “I have spoken with AJ to personally convey my condolences over the passing of his two close associates, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami in the recent accident.
“I wished him a full and speedy recovery, and prayed with him. AJ assured me he is receiving the best possible care.”
The incident - which involved a black Lexus and a stationary red commercial truck - took place on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at around 12pm on Monday (29.12.25).
The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced that, based on preliminary findings, the Lexus was "suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit".
The organisation also revealed that the vehicle "lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre" before colliding with the stationary truck.
On Monday (29.12.25), a spokesperson for the boxer said: "It is with the deepest and most profound sadness that we confirm, following a road traffic accident in Lagos Nigeria earlier today, the death of Sina Ghami and Kevin 'Latif' Ayodele.
"Both were close friends and integral members of Anthony's team."
Joshua was in the rear of the vehicle, and could be seen wincing in pain as he was helped out of the wreckage by onlookers.
According to The Governments of Ogun and Lagos in Nigeria, Joshua has undergone "several clinical assessments", but medical staff have ruled he does "not require any emergency interventions at this time".
Joshua, the former heavyweight world champion, was spending time in Nigeria following his recent victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami, Florida.
